Allied Services receives First Federal grantAllied Services Foundation received a First Federal Charitable Foundation grant to help fund the partial cost of a van it will use to provide services to residents of its Behavioral Health Community Residential Rehabilitation (CRR) facility in Pottsville.

Although Schuylkill County’s mental health grants pay for CRR staffing and operations, the funds are not sufficient to supply all the resources that participants need. A reliable, road-worth vehicle would ensure that CRR staff could get participants where they need to go, including medical and psychiatric appointments, addiction/recovery services, employment/training locations, and job interviews. Allied Services also expects to use the van to move personal belongings for participants who are transitioning from the CRR to independent or supported living.

Allied Services’ Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations Barbara T. Norton said, “Our mission at Allied Services is to advance the health, life quality and independence of people in Northeast PA who have disabilities and chronic illnesses. This grant will help us facilitate and accelerate the recovery process of our participants by helping them to access essential services and gain the skills and self-confidence to tackle new challenges. And, as each participant transitions from the CRR, the program is able to admit a new person from the waiting list.”

Allied Services’ programs help individuals with significant physical, medical, intellectual or behavioral disabilities. Its services include medical rehabilitation, skilled nursing care, hospice and palliative care, home health and personal care, and employment programs and residential services for adults with intellectual, behavioral or developmental disabilities.

Its Behavioral Health CRR facility in Pottsville can accommodate up to 10 individuals. In all, 19 people were served by the CRR during the organization’s 2018-19 fiscal year and participants had an average length of stay in the program/residence of 113 days.

First Federal Charitable Foundation Executive Director Megan Kennedy said, “We’re glad to support the work that Allied Services Foundation does through this grant. The organization does so much to help residents throughout Northeast Pennsylvania receive the care they need but they can’t do it alone. It’s vital for them to be able to transport their participants where they need to go and we’re happy to help them receive the funding they need to accomplish this.”

The First Federal Charitable Foundation was established to support worthwhile community causes.
